Situated at the entry of San Gabriel Canyon and San Gabriel River to its eastern portion is the city of Azusa. It is one of the cities in Los Angeles County, California with an estimated population of 44,800. The city got its name way back eighteenth century ago where it was taken from an old Jack Benny's joke "everything from A to Z in the USA". Initially, the city's name pertains to the San Gabriel Valley and river and probably derived from the place of Tongva called Asuksagna. Located in this city are two private universities, the Azusa Pacific University which is a Christian university and the Dhammakaya Open University, which is a Buddhist university. A portion of the St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church which is the St. Frances of Rome Elementary School can also be found in this city where they cater kindergarten to grade eight students. |
