The city of Buena Park is situated in the northwestern part of the Orange County, California that has a 2000 statistic of about 78,300 residents. It is next to the Anaheim city and is situated 20 km (12 miles) northwest of Santa Ana downtown. The precise source of the city's name is unclear but there are two theories regarding the origin. Some say that the originator of the city, James A. Whitaker, who was a wholesale entrepreneur from Chicago, used a Chicago community's name to call the city. However, both communities were named in the same year 1887 which is confusing who was named first. The other theory says that there was once an artesian well and a park-like area situated in the present intersection of Artesia and Beach Blvd where the local inhabitants called it "Plaza Buena" (in Spanish) or "good park". The Buena Park city was organized in the year 1953 and became an agricultural area where dairy, wine and citrus products are mainly produced. However today, the city has become generally a residential area. And as the city became more open, it turned into a famous real estate preference for Asian Americans, Hispanic Americans, and African Americans. This city is also famous for some of its tourist spots especially the Knott's Berry Farm. |
