Situated in the western portion of the United States having a population of 23,300, Calabasas city is one of the city in Los Angeles County, California. In 1991, this city was formally organized. Calabasas city got its name from the Spanish word calabaza which means "pumpkin" or "squash". Although other belief says that the city's name is an interpretation of the Chumash word calahoosa. The Chamber of Commerce in this city yearly holds a Pumpkin Festival which is celebrated in the month of October in honor of the city's name. Starting from a small town fair, the festival progressed into a yearly event. Legends say that the area's first pumpkin patch started when a traveling wagon which carries squashes had flipped over a certain place somewhere within the city. Situated in this city is a large Hindu Temple complex where a lot of Hindus from Los Angeles downtown comes to visit. |
