Previously called as the Dairy Valley, the city of Cerritos is among the many cities which comprise the Gateway Cities of southeast Los Angeles County. This city has an estimated population of 55,200 people. Initially, Native American called Tongva tribe or “people of the earth “occupied this area. Afterwards, the tribe was renamed by the Spanish colonizers "Gabrielenos" from the close by Mission San Gabriel Archangel. This tribe was the largest group of Native Indian in the southern part of California which survived by getting their food from animals or plants through hunting and grinding acorns. It was called as the Dairy Valley because of the great number of cows and chicken that out numbers the residents in this area outmatching the whole state of Wisconsin and was established on the year 1956. |
