Located at the foot of San Gabriel Mountains, approximately 45 km (30 miles) east of Los Angeles downtown is the college town of Claremont. With an estimated population of 37,300 people, this city is famous for its seven colleges, tree lined sidewalks, and historical architectures. Because of the many trees and citizens that has a doctorate degree, Claremont is referred to as "the City of Trees and PhDs." Originally, the city was once a residential area, with some commercial activity surrounding The Village but in 2007, it has extended, adding other business establishments like Movie Theater, art museum, offices, boutiques, and parking area which is located at the old citrus packing plant. Claremont is among the few areas in North America that still has American Elm trees that are not exposed to Dutch Elm Disease. |
