One of the cities in the southern portion of Orange County, California is the Laguna Hills. It has an estimated population of 31,200 residents according to the year 2000 statistics. Laguna Hills is one of the cities that were established in the days of Rancho Era. After Mexico got its independence from Spain in the year 1821, people who rendered their service in the government were provided with large lands to graze their animals. The Rancho Niguel owned by Don Juan Avila is the location of the present Laguna Hills. In the year 1874, Rancho Niguel was sold to Lewis Moulton where he and his partner utilized the area to breed sheep and cattle. However, in the early 1960's, the land was eventually distributed and a portion of which is now acknowledged as Laguna Hills. It was in the year 1987 when the organization for Laguna Hills started and finally December 20, 1991, the place officially became a City. Today, the Laguna Hills Civic Center and City Hall is situated off El Toro route in the northern part of the city. Laguna Hills Mall is also one of the resources of the city's wealth where it generally serves the senior citizen communities, the Laguna Woods Village. |
