One of the cities in Orange County, California which has general residents of senior citizen is the Laguna Woods. It is outlined on the northern and eastern side by Laguna Hills, Aliso Viejo on the south and Laguna Beach to its southwest, Crystal Cove State Park to the west, and Irvine to the northwest. It is populated with about 16,600 people according to the year 2000 statistics and 90% of the area covers the Laguna Woods Village or previously called Leisure World which is a retirement neighborhood. It was in the year 1990s when the efforts to organize the area started because they were greatly urged to have a need of stronger voice versus the potential building of an international airport nearby. Eventually, the recommendation did not succeed and the area in proposal has been preferred for the development of the Orange County Great Park. The city has several emergency services such as fire protection which is supplied by the Orange County Fire Authority, ambulance service provided by the Doctor' Ambulance, and law enforcement supplied by the Orange County Sheriff's Department.
