It has a recent population of about 86,252 and is presently one of the richest districts in America and was rated in some division as first. The city got its name when a steamer known as "The Vaquero" in the year 1870 made its initial trip towards a swampy lagoon for business. After that, owners of ranches in the Lower Bay agree to call the place "Newport". The improvement of the city increased in the year 1905 when Pacific Electric Railroad founded a southern end in Newport joining the beach and the Los Angeles downtown. The following year, the 206 scattered inhabitants were organized and became the Newport Beach City. They filled the Lido Isle, Balboa Island, and West Newport and in the year 1923 it joined Corona del Mar. The city has several schools within and near the vicinity and is featured in TV series like Arrested Development. There are also several interesting spots like the Balboa Bay Club, Dory Fish Market, Newport Aquatic Center, and the Crystal Cove State Beach.
