Norwalk is a provincial city of Los Angeles County, California with an approximate population of 103,300 according to the 2000 statistics. This city was established in the later part of 1800s and was organized as a city in 1957. Situated 27 km (17 miles) on the southeastern part of Los Angeles downtown, this city is one of the members of the Gateway Cities. Like the other cities situated in the Los Angeles Basin, Norwalk enjoys a good weather all throughout the year. The Superior Court Los Angeles County Southeast District can also be found in this city. Before 1950s, the city has a large community of Dutch who were originally affiliated to the many dairies within the region. However, because of the flow of immigration generally from Mexico, the community of Latino grew greatly. During the 1990s, Norwalk acquired a great Asian population from the locality of Orange County and Cerritos. The place which is now called Norwalk was once inhabited by Shoshonean Native American tribe who lived basically from honey, acorns, sage, berries, birds and rabbits, and living in huts that were the same as with the Sejat Indian village. Norwalk city is the birthplace of Cerritos College which was established in the year 1955. It is a public community college which is located southeast of Los Angeles County. |
